About the ʻIkebase
Contained in the pages of what is commonly known as the "Kūʻē Petitions" are over 21,000 signatures of Kupuna Aloha ʻAina who opposed the annexation of Hawai'i to the U.S. government in 1897. The Kūʻē ʻIkebase makes these names searchable while displaying data in new and useful ways.
In an effort to indigenize access to digital information and prevent from reducing these ʻinoa to mere "data," the ʻikebase is intended to foster an experience of connection and to portray the mana of our Kupuna standing for what they believed in.
